This place vertrekt van het idee van ‘displacement’ als motor, vector, generator van fysieke beweging, zingeving en waardesysteem. In hun nieuw project willen Sara Manente en Marcos Simoes het begrip toepassen op de nabijheid tussen dingen, en dingen die in relatie staan tot elkaar. Bijvoorbeeld alle elementen uit een artistieke creatie: objecten, performers, woorden en publiek. Volgens hen kan"This place" op verschillende momenten aanwezig zijn: de virtuele ruimte tussen de partners in een i artistiekkoppel, de constellatie van de ontmoeting tussendezepersonen, de ruimte van de overdracht, het wederzijds begrip / onbegrip en zelfs de plaats waar paranormale communicatie het werk beïnvloedt. Op elke locatie willen de makers vorm geven aan een performatieve situatie, en het resultaat ervan tonen als een tijdelijk object – en niét als een work in progress.
Manente en Simoes nodigen telkens een ‘artistiekkoppel’ uit om met hen samen te werken. Die koppels kunnen (dichte) collega’s zijn, of werkelijke partners. Gedurende twee weken delen zij een werkplek en een gemeenschappelijke praktijkvoor de ‘displacement’ met als doel deze te hervormen toteen nieuw objectvoorhetpubliek. De uitnodiging om bij het project aan te sluiten kan worden gevolgd door een tegenvoorstel, een eerste 'verplaatsing' van het project zelf. Het doel van dit project is om op elk moment en bij elke ‘verplaatsing’ “this place” te vinden. Het project omvat elke variatie en alle variaties samen.

BUREAU D'ESPOIR Battery - Natural History Museum of Hope

boxVan 13 december tot 3 januari 2014 werkt Bureau d'Espoir in ZSenne. Met de 22 dagen lange research performance Battery, in de ramen van de galerij, testen twee onderzoekers het potentieel van de 'publieke batterij' als een instrument voor de productie van hoop.

Het Natural History Museum of Hope is een actieve tentoonstelling waar de bezoekers terecht kunnen voor de Hope Sessions: film, een Hoop Tarot lezing, de uitwisseling van een Hoop Object, of gewoon een kop thee.

Meer avontuurlijke bezoekers kunnen zich ook aanmelden als vrijwilliger om samen met de batterij-onderzoekers een aantal privé-sessies te ondergaan, om de nieuwe hoop-instrumenten van Bureau d'Espoir te testen.
Bureau d'Espoir organiseert daarnaast lezingen en concerten.

From the 13th of December to the 3rd of January Bureau d’Espoir occupies the performance gallery ZSenne. With the 22 days ongoing performance ‘Battery’ in the street windows of the building in which two hope researchers test the power of the machine to turn dire circumstances into hopeful ones. And with the Natural History Museum of Hope: an active exhibition and performance installation in which visitors can come to exchange Hope Objects, browse through the Hope Library or have a sessions with the caretakers to read the Tarot of Hope with them. 

The more adventurous visitors are also invited to join the performers in the battery, as test volunteers to try out different strategies of hope, developed by Bureau d’Espoir.
The opening of Bureau d’Espoir takes places on the 13th of December from 19:00 onwards. This marks the start of the Hope Object Exchange, accompanied by The Hope Sessions, a sample concert using the material of hope interviews conducted over the last 5 months.

 Next to these ongoing activities, Bureau d’Espoir also organizes lectures and concerts on the topic of Hope today.

Good evening co-sitters !
Recently many organizational contre-pieds obstructed me from working in the wished concentrated way. 
I even had to neglect proper communication with you ...
So i think it's necessary to update all of us about what will go on and when with SWTB.
 
As you know I plan to conclude my research in the second week of February, 10 - 16 / 2 / 2014.
My idea was to produce until then 24 hours of test material. 
In the one-on-one sessions, which we are doing right now, next week and beginning of December, we would discover who will do what during that day. It is not the idea that we all spend 24 hours together, but that we are present and participate in overlapping shifts. A polyphony of individual practice lines (or modules).
 
By midst of December I’ll compose a schedule of lines/modules.
From 10 to 14 February we will use the days to refresh our practices/material.
The 15th of February I actually plan to try-out the coming in and out of people doing their 'things'.
Renée Copraij is planned come that day to Brussels to coach us.
The 16th in the afternoon, the 24 hour test would start and things would just run during one whole day ...
 
Whether there will be enough stuff to fill 24 hours is meanwhile not so clear any more.
This has to do with a few works that take much more of my time than I expected.
However, it would be great if you could somehow stay stand-by during this week in February.
 
Charlotte Bouckaert will be filming the 15th as well as 16th of February for montage.  This movie will accompany my application to the VG/dans (due 1st of march).
In case the 24 hours turn out to be too ambitious, we can opt for only filming bits and pieces of material during two days.

Having in mind to produce SWTB 7/7, 'a polyphonic choreography' next year, the research takes a clear direction: practicing - in the sense of dedicating oneself to something completely - will be the heart of the polyphonic piece. The final work to see for others (the public) will evolve around personal practice-lines. It wouldn't make sense to fix some sort of material and rehearse/repeat it from now on. What makes sense is that we - individually as well as a group - a loose group - integrate the practicing into our daily/weekly life-routines.

 
Until next February there will be 'one-on-one' retreats of one full day, (in ZSenne and at other locations) during which Heike Langsdorf works with one co-sitter at a time. Materials (movement, actions, to-do-things) for an individual praxis line will be selected ... 
 
The basis for these personal practice-lines, are the principles which she could research for herself under der guidance of Renée Copraij during the last year.
 
On 15/16 February 2014, at ZSenne artlab, there will be a 24-hour test, concluding the research phase and at the same time previewing what will be elaborated into a piece for the fall 2014

METAPORPHOSES Ada Rajszys

Je voudrais qu'il y existe des endroits qui sont stables, immobiles, immatériels, intactes, inchangeants, profondément enracinés ; endroits qui pourraient être le point de référence, de départ, d'origine ; ces endroits n'existent pas, et c'est parce qu'ils n'existent pas que l'espace devient une question. L'espace est un doute :
Je dois constamment le marquer, pour le désigner.

Een positie in een ruimte innemen, is ook een positie innemen in tijd. Als een volgende stap in de cyclus ‘Metamorphoses’, wil deze interventie focussen op mijn onderzoek naar verandering. Vertrekkend van ruimte en vorm en hun meerduidige verhoudingen en mogelijkheden wil ik, door het proces van creatie en transformatie, het idee verkennen hoe het zenuwsysteem “realiteit” creëert door “abstractie”. Een fase van transformatie wordt een intuïtief geconstrueerde structuur. Een zoektocht die probeert een spoor achter te laten om het breekbare en tijdelijke aspect van een ruimte te beschrijven, en daarmee ook de dubbelzinnigheid te benadrukken tussen subjectieve ruimte en de nood aan een meer stabiele en objectieve ruimte. 

To occupy a position in space is an occupation in time. Following the cycle I call METAMORPHOSES, this intervention in space will extend my research about modification. Centred on space and shape and their multiple interactions and potentialities, turning to the process of the creation itself and transformation, I want to explore the idea how the nervous system creates "reality" by the process called "abstraction". A phase of transformation which becomes an intuitively composed structure. A journey that attempts, by leaving traces, to describe the fragile and temporary space aspect and underline the ambivalence between a subjective space and the need for a more stable and objective space. 

Occuper une position dans l’espace est une occupation dans le temps. Dans la suite du cycle METAMORPHOSES cette intervention dans l’espace prolongera ma recherche sur la modification. Centrée sur l’espace et la forme et leurs multiples interactions et potentialités, me tournant vers le processus de la création même et la transformation, j’ai envie d’explorer l’idée comment le système nerveux crée "réalité" par le processus appelé "abstraction". Une phase de transformation qui devient une structure composée intuitivement. Un trajet qui essaie de poser une trace pour décrire l’aspect fragile et temporaire d’une espace et souligner l’ambivalence entre une espace subjective et le besoin d’un espace plus stable et objective.
