ZONES_is een collectief en evolutief project dat in 2014 gestart werd door Alex Mira, en dat kunstenaars samenbrengt die voor het merendeel van de École nationale supérieur des Art Décoratifs in Parijs komen.
Voor de eerste editie van ZONES_ werd het project opgebouwd rond de gemeenschappelijke definitie van het begrip uit de titel, die elke kunstenaar ertoe gebracht heeft zijn/haar eigen zone te verkennen. « Hoe een zone te begrijpen ? » Vertrekkende van deze vraag, hebben de kunstenaars die samengebracht werden voor deze eerste tentoonstelling gekozen om haar te benaderen door middel van ideeën die inherent zijn aan het begrip zone, teneinde er een vertaling aan te geven, meer dan een definitie: veranderlijkheid, betrekkelijkheid, waarschijnlijkheid, potentieel, …
En toch, de schommelingen van haar grenzen, haar aard en haar tijdelijkheid maken er een notie van die zich verzet tegen elke poging om haar precies te bepalen.
In het kader van de tweede editie gaat het de kunstenaars erom hun inspanningen te focussen op de mogelijke inzet van elk van de verkende zones door het ontwikkelen van een creatiesysteem gebaseerd op hun gebrek aan definitie en het onderwerp van hun wisselwerkingen. Op die manier zijn de projecten erop gericht om zich toe te leggen op het gebied dat de werkelijke en onbekende zone scheidt van de ingebeelde en genormeerde zone, daarbij het idee van een mogelijke variatie bevragend. In opeenvolgende lagen, in weerklank of in tegenstelling zullen deze experimenten, onderzochte of ontlede zones, allemaal aansporingen vormen om een blik op de wereld te werpen vanuit onverwachte hoeken
ZONES_ est un projet collectif et évolutif initié en 2014 par Alex Mira, et réunissant des artistes pour la plupart issus de l'École nationale supérieur des Art Décoratifs de Paris.
Pour la première édition de ZONES_, le projet s’est articulé autour d’une définition commune de la notion titre ayant amené chaque artiste à explorer sa propre zone. “Comment appréhender une zone?” Partant de cette question, les artistes réunis pour cette première exposition ont choisi de l’aborder par le biais de notions inhérentes au concept de zone, afin d’en apporter une traduction, plus qu’une définition: variabilité, relativité, probabilité, potentiel…
Toutefois, de par la possible fluctuation de ses limites, sa nature et sa temporalité en font une notion qui résiste à toute tentative d’identification précise.
Dans le cadre de cette seconde édition, il s’agît pour les artistes de concentrer leurs efforts sur le déploiement potentiel de chacune des zones explorées en développant un système de création fondé sur leur indéfinition et l’objet de leurs interactions. les projets s’attacheront ainsi à investir le champ qui sépare la zone réelle et inconnue de la zone imaginée et normée, interrogeant l’idée d’une variation potentielle. En couches successives, en résonance ou en opposition, ces expérimentations, zones arpentées ou disséquées, seront autant d’incitations à entrevoir le monde sous des angles inattendus.
ZONES_ is an ever-changing collective project created in 2014 by Alex Mira, bringing together artists who are, for the most part, graduates of l'École nationale Supérieure des Art Décoratifs de Paris.
For the first edition of ZONES_, the project focused on having each artist explore his/her own definition of a zone. “How does one grasp the notion of zone?” With this question at heart, the artists chose to offer a translation rather than a definition: variability, relativity, probability, potential…
However, given the possible fluctuation of its limits, its nature and its temporality, it is a notion that resists attempts at simple and accurate identification.
The goal of this second edition is, therefore, to have the artists concentrate their efforts on the potential extension of each of the explored zones by developing a creative system founded on their indefinition and the object of their interactions. The projects will endeavour to occupy the field separating the real and unknown zone from the imagined and normative zone, thus questioning the idea of potential variation. In a series of layers, sometimes harmonious and sometimes dissonant, these experiments will offer a glimpse of a world built from unexpected angles.
